​Oaklands Stud are excited to release the Stallion Roster for 2022. Resident stallion, Power, will again serve as the headline stallion at Oaklands Stud for the season. 

Last season’s new addition to the QLD Breeding market, ex-Darley stallion & Group 1 Golden Rose winner, Exosphere, will again stand at Oaklands Stud. Beginning his 2nd Season at Stud is Prince Fawaz, Two-Year-Old Group 1 winning son of Fastnet Rock.

​In another successful racing season to date, Power added his 3rd Group 1 winner when Sonnyboyliston won the Irish St Leger. 
A further Group 2, Group 3 and listed wins were also produced in a great season including the very classy mare, Wakanaka. 

Power also finished in the Top 10 of the New Zealand’s Sire Table overall. His leading son, Mighty Giant has also now earned over A$2 Million in prizemoney. 

Power’s service fee this season will remain at $13,200 (inc GST).

​In what was an exciting acquisition to Oaklands, Exosphere has had a terrific season.
The outstanding Desleigh Forster filly, Exo Lady, was a terrific example of what Exosphere can produce in the QLD Racing landscape, having amassed over $350k in her 2YO season.

The Godolphin colt, Spacewalk also showed high level quality with a 2YO win and stakes placing. He is now on a pathway to the Group 1 Golden Rose winner. 

With this Stallion on a continuing upward trend, Oaklands are very excited at Exosphere’s futures in front of him.

The 2YO Group 1 winning son of Fastnet Rock, Prince Fawaz holds outstanding QLD Breeding credentials, as the winner of QLD's premier Two-Year-Old race, the JJ Atkins (G1, 1600m) with a higher rating than The Autumn Sun's JJ Atkins win.

To further stamp himself, at three-years old he ran 2nd to Castelvecchio in G1 Rosehill Guineas the Two-Year-Old Group 1 winning son of Fastnet Rock.

​Oaklands Stud based Power (GB) has not shuttled back to the Northern Hemisphere for a while now, but he’s left quite a legacy behind him and added a new stakes-winner to his tally in France overnight when Ponntos won the Group III Prix Saint- Georges (100m).

The five year-old stallion was not among the fancied runners, but with Frankie Dettori on board he proved much the best winning the short course sprint by more than two lengths at his first run for this year. Ponntos is the best of three winners from Blessing Box a full sister to stakes-winning sprinter Bounty Box.

After El Guanche (Miss Gran Canaria (GB) (Selkirk (USA)) won a listed sprint race in Sweden, POWER now has 24 stakeswinners on the board.

Oaklands Stud breeders to Exosphere would be overjoyed at the recent yearling sales success of his progeny at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. Continuing on from his progeny success on the track, his desirability with buyers of yearlings is exciting for all to see.

With 4 yearlings offered at the sales, 3 x fillies and 1 x colt, the sales topper was a filly from Group 1 winning Singspiel mare, Rewaaya, which went for $280,000. Other sales of $110,000 and $90,000 helped produce an overall average of $130,000 across the sales.

​Ebor Handicap and Irish St Leger winner Sonnyboyliston will tackle the rich Red Sea Handicap in Saudia Arabia this weekend. The rich $2.75 Million handicap sees the return of the Power gelding, after declining the invitation to run in the 2021 Melbourne Cup. His last preparation saw him take way 2 classic races and trainer Johnny Murtagh says he has continued to physically develop during his last spell. Murtagh will send Sonnyboyliston back home after this race and look towards European target races. 

Power's excellent 2021 year has continued after producing a stakes Quinella at Otaki in NZ on Thursday.
​Four year-old mare Rose ‘n’ Power won the Listed Levin Stakes (1200m) from another daughter of Power in Romantic Lady.

Cambridge trainers Fred and Lindsay Cornege have the progressive mare racing in terrific style, who has now won four races in succession and now adding black type to her resume. The mare has now won 5 times from her 10 starts.

Noted on-pacer Rose 'N' Power wasn’t as quickly away as usual but mustered to sit behind the leaders and dug deep under a vigorous Matt Cameron ride to eventually get the better of Romantic Lady giving Power a stakes quinella.

Bred by long-time friend Liz Pollard and Gloria Graydon, the Corneges share in the ownership of the daughter of Power, whose granddam is the Group III winner Rosetti Bay, who won eight races. The bar will be raised again for Rose 'N' Power who holds a nomination for the Group I Sistema Railway (1200m) on New Year’s Day at Ellerslie.

The Jamie Richards-trained Romantic Lady is herself due some luck and is worthy of adding black type to her resume very soon.

The good news for Oaklands continued on the weekend, when the first Oaklands home-bred Two Year Old saluted at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday. Refuel, trained by Tom Button, was having his 3rd start, having improved with each visit to the track with a sixth on debut at Eagle Farm followed by a good second at Rockhampton on November 5. 

Being the more experienced and fit 2YO in the race, Refuel sat in the 1-1 behind the leaders and was far too strong over the concluding stages to win the 1000m race by half a length running away. He looks to have a bright future ahead as he has taken his prizemoney tally to near $35k already in his young career.

​Refuel is a half-brother to stakes-placed La Dolce Vita and is the fourth winner from Tsuimai mare Zerotami.

​The farm were very excited to see the all important 2YO pre-Xmas victory for one of their Power Two Year Olds. Whilst confident it would happen, it was great to see it achieved, with many bullets still in the chamber to fire this year. Power looks to have a nice stable of Australian Two Year Olds ready to roll, including the 2YO metro placed Possover, who was a very nice 2nd at her most recent start behind the ultra-impressive Exo Lady.

The new headline freshman stallion in QLD, Prince Fawaz, continues to fill his book for the 2021 breeding season.
A short-priced favourite to take out the first season sire in QLD when his progeny hit the track, he has already received terrific support from the ownership group and Oaklands Stud, ensuring good quality mares  with good numbers.

But according to Co-Principal at Oaklands, Alistair Stewart, the support from the QLD Breeding community has been particularly pleasing to see. "To be able to offer a stallion of this quality to our local and loyal clients is terrific, but to make Prince Fawaz available in QLD for all is very exciting. Especially, being Fastnet Rock’s first 2YO Group 1-winning colt in Australia, and winning QLD's greatest 2YO race,  JJ Atkins." Alistair also commented, "we continue to get bookings for him everyday and wil work with hi all the way till the end of the breeding season."

As a sire of sires, Fastnet Rock has already had eight sons at stud produce Group 1 winners, including Smart Missile, a Champion First Season Sire who currently sits in the top 10 on the Australian Sire winners Premiership this season. Outstanding sire son Hinchinbrook, also a Champion First Season Sire, commanded a fee of $55,000 before his premature death aged only ten.

Prince Fawaz’s dam, Lady Paget, won 2 races at 1200m and 1400m and has produced 3 foals, all winners. She is from the stakes-placed Last Tycoon mare Lady Capel, who has produced 4 stakes winners including the Group 1 winner and 2YO stakes winner,
Casino Prince (Flying Spur) who sired All Too Hard.

Power has claimed his 3rd Group 1 win as a stallion as 4YO Gelding, Sonnyboyliston, landed the classic Irish St Leger.

Going head to head with last year’s Melbourne Cup winner, Twilight Payment, Sonnyboyliston proved too strong over the concluding stages of the 2800m feature. Nominated for this year’s Melbourne Cup, when asked whether the Melbourne Cup might be on the agenda next, Murtagh replied: "It would take a fair offer to take him away from the owners [Kildare Racing Club] now, but the Melbourne Cup is worth €2.5 million. It mightn't be for him this year, but he's only four and could end up down there for us some time yet."

Power has continued on from his great last season by having a record first month of the new season.
In August he had 25 starters for 11 wins and 13 places. That’s a winning strike rate of 44% and a place strike rate of 96% PER RACE START!! Amazing! 🔥 🔥 🔥

​We have a very happy farm at the moment, after some amazing results overnight. In one of the main feature days of racing in France, Oaklands Stud stallions have won 2 of the feature races on the same card!!

Son of Power, Laws of Indices (by Exceed and Excel mare, Sampers) was successful in winning the Group 1 feature, the Prix Jean Prat over 1400m. It was an outstanding win considering the calibre of the field including teams of Aidan O'Brien,  Joseph O'Brien and Godolphin horses. It was also terrific to see him train on a win such a feature race as a 3YO after his 2YO stakes success.

This success continues on further the outstanding season Power is having to date. His success continues to grow year on year and this is a record season for him. This recent result takes his season results to:

• 12 x Stakes wins
• 6 x Group wins
• 2 x Group 1 wins

Exosphere, our newly acquired stallion, also produced a Group 3 winner on the very same racecard. 3YO gelding, Ocean, was successful in the Group 3 Prix De Ris-orangis over 1200m, making it three on the trot and Exosphere's 3rd Stakeswinner in his early career.

Oaklands Stud are very pleased to announce the introduction of 2019 JJ Atkins winner, Prince Fawaz to the Oaklands Stud roster.

Prince Fawaz is out of the twice-winning mare Lady Paget (Testa Rossa), who herself is out of the stakes-placed Lady Capel (Last Tycoon), dam to four stakes winners including Group 1 winner and successful sire Casino Prince (Flying Spur), while she is a sister to 1994 Concorde Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner Just Awesome.

“So, what attracted me. It wasn’t the fact he won the J J Atkins or that he’s by Fastnet Rock, I looked at the pedigree, saw Kew Gardens and thought ‘yep, that’s the family I want to breed from’. And then the rest of it, as you look further; Fastnet Rock - tick in the box. Group 1-winning two-year-old - tick in the box. Second in the Rosehill Guineas - tick in the box. “It’s very exciting and we’re very humbled and also proud that Anthony Cummings, in conjunction with the owners, selected Oaklands for Prince Fawaz above a lot of other options.”

Trained by Anthony Cummings, Prince Fawaz’s only two wins came as a juvenile, but of his 13 career starts ten were at Group 2 level or higher, as, beyond a fifth in the Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) on just his second start, running the fastest 600-metre sectional of the race, he would finish runner-up in the Rosehill Guineas (Gr 1, 2000m) as a three-year-old behind Castelvecchio (Dundeel). 

The Group 1-winning juvenile will begin stud duties this year at the Toowoomba stud, standing for a fee of $11,000, and Stewart told ANZ Bloodstock News yesterday that memories of former Queensland stallion Just Awesome (Last Tycoon) and the family emanating from third dam Kew Gardens (Kenmare), left him in no doubt that Prince Fawaz had the potential to be a success in
the breeding barn.

Helvic Dream has produced Power's first Group 1 winner, winning the time-honoured Tattersalls Gold Cup.
Having already produced his most stakes wins and stakewinners in a season, his first Group 1 winner takes him to a new level.
